PPEDS ( The Pondicherry People’s Education for development Society ). It came into existence in the year 1987 with a vision of a just society where opportunities are made equal to everybody. On the process Improving CBO’s accessibility to various services Ensuring the quality of interventions of NGOs Networking with NGOs Designing appropriate training modules according to the local needs Capacity building training programs, OD exercises, Evaluation, documentation and research Educational activities for disadvantaged children Creative Education forums in the villages Community health education activities Producing Alternative education syllabus for the non-formal schools The major contributions apart from our direct involvement with women and children’s projects. The development journey along with the grass root level groups has brought us to this stage where we are forced to respond to the timely needs whether it is natural disaster or man made disaster. At present we are also facilitating a Dalit women’s network at the State level. There are 78 women’s groups in our network. Dalits are considered as the untouchables in the caste system dominated by the upper caste. Dalits are the poorest among poor in two south Indian states, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
